Harland 'Hal' Shunk

Hal Shunk’s artwork is a combination of spontaneous action and control. As he creates he allows one action play-off another with the end result often becoming a unique combination of decisive strokes and interesting mis-haps, balanced, to form the colorful, masterfully-blended works he is known for.

Early Years

Hal graduated the Western Kentucky University in 1980, where he earned his BFA in printmaking before moving-on to New York City where he earned his Master of Fine Art degree in Printmaking from the esteemed Pratt Institute in 1982. Currently, Hal is a Professor of Fine Art and Director of the Hercum Art Gallery at Wilmington College in Wilmington, Ohio.
